Mungo Park - Travels in the Interior of Africa - 1815
FIRST TRIPS TO THE HEART OF AFRICA<br>Park, Scottish explorer (Foulshiels, Selkirkshire, 1771 - Bussa, Nigeria, 1805). He undertook an exploratory journey into the Niger basin on behalf of the African Society of London (1795), penetrating from Gambia into Bondu and the Senegal valley and then following the course of the Niger up to Segu, in Bambara. The account of the journey (Travels in the interior of Africa, 1799) made him popular in England. Having left Gambia a few years later (1805), P. reached the Niger again, intending to follow it to its mouth, but was attacked and killed by the natives.<br><br>CONDITION REPORT<br>2 volumes.
